The Latest Addition to the Fleet Arrives on the Mersey

Carmet are delighted to announce that a new addition to the fleet is arriving on the River Mersey this week. The CT Oxton, previously owned by Forth Ports as the ‘Oxcar’, is 30m Voith Schneider Tug and, although not the newest of vessels, has been maintained to a very high standard and is a strong addition to Carmet’s local fleet.

At the time of building, the CT Oxton was one of the most powerful Voith Tugs. The pair of A.P.E. Allen main engines develop 3040bhp to achieve a bollard pull of 30 tonnes.

The highly manoeuvrable harbour tug will be based at Eastham and support the Company’s ongoing work on the River Mersey and surrounding Ports. In addition to this, Carmet hopes to support the local tug companies when an extra tug capacity is required at Eastham and the QE Dock.

“We look forward to arrival of the Oxton. The Voith Tug will support our ongoing and upcoming local projects, offering a more powerful solution for towage activities on the River Mersey,” said Joshua Metcalfe, Operations Director Carmet Tug Co Ltd.
