Teignbridge Propellers are excited to be collaborating with Optima Electic Yachts on their Ultra-Efficient Electric Boat project funded by Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom and Innovate UK.
This is the 4th round of the government’s Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC-4), focusing on clean maritime technologies working towards the decarbonisation of the maritime industry, whilst supporting jobs in coastal communities and growing the economy.
David Kendall, Optima’s CEO, has formed a collaborative project/partnership with industry leading experts:
Seabird Technologies are developers of the cutting-edge foiling electric race boat E1 series.
Teignbridge Propellers, one of the UK’s leading experts in propulsion design and manufacturing.
Edwards & Renouf who have developed a biocide-free marine coating.
Rob Watson, Founder of On The Layline Ltd will be assisting with project management.
Building on Teignbridge’s successful CMDC round one project, we are developing a high efficiency propeller design suitable for electric propulsion systems.
The project will enable the partners to test and develop further advancements in sustainability in the form of ultra-efficient propellor technology, low-friction clean antifoul coatings and in foil-assistance to achieve even greater efficiencies for the electric vessel industry.
David Kendall, Optima’s CEO comments, “The increased efficiencies developed during the project will keep us ahead of our competitors in terms of energy efficiency and range and enable our 13m electric vessels to be ready for production in 2025.”
